Cabin Re-roofing Project

After much discussion, planning, and preparation, the re-roofing of the cabin project has started.  This post will be updated with progress reports for the duration.

Sep 28 – the front side is complete and we are done for this year.

Aug 10 – received metal roofing package in Garden Bay

Aug 11 – materials stored in the garage

Aug 16 – 1st load of 10 panels loaded to go over

Aug 16 – underlay and eave flashing

Aug 17 – first panel and gable flashing, but we were sold the wrong screws and could not attach the 2nd panel

Aug 24 – still no screws but more underlay applied

Aug 26 – installation of the panels goes quickly

Aug 31 – bottom section mostly finished, strapping installed for transition

Sep 6 – good progress on upper roof, but the rains started the next day

Sep 23 – it has rained every day except one since Sep 6, but the forecast for this week is for sunny days and we are heading back to the cabin this afternoon to hopefully finish off the front roof and close up for the winter.

A Typical Summer

new neighbourhood dock

We are having a heat wave and it hasn’t rained since July 9.  Our days are lazy as the big projects are done around the house (windows, deck, staining) and it’s too hot to be very active.  He try to run or bike in the mornings.

Today we used the new neighbourhood dock for the first time.  The old rotten, sinking dock was removed in May and the new one was built and installed this week.  You can see that it is fantastic and we hope that it doesn’t become a destination for the general public.

tomatillo plant

Aimeé’s garden is feeding us well: snow peas, beans, zucchini, a few herbs, and tomatoes coming.  This tomatillo plant is impressive as are the zucchini plants.  The zucchini flowers add an interesting flavour to quesadillas.

It has taken the partners until now to be ready to order the roofing materials for the cabin.  The order will be placed tomorrow and materials will be delivered within two weeks.  The the next and final large project for 2018 will begin.  Sure hope it cools down and stays mostly dry.
