Back in Garden Bay

I flew back to Vancouver on Tuesday January 13 with a stopover in Portland where I enjoyed a local craft beer, delicious!  Mexican beer is cheap but ordinary.  Lots to do in the city including putting the apartment back on the market.  Drove to Garden Bay on Tuesday January 20.  The house is pretty much as I left it.

It’s cold, wet, and grey here in BC as it normally is in the winter, although last week we had a couple of nice-ish days.  I don’t like the weather!  My resolve to travel next winter is stronger than ever.

In Guanajuato I had an enjoyable routine and few responsibilities.  Here I have too many responsibilities and I’ve yet to establish the routine that I have in mind.  I’m playing piano but not seriously.  My Spanish is retreating to the background which is unavoidable.  I have run only once since my return.

But I’m making progress and spring is coming.

Final Days in Mexico

I left Guanajuato on Saturday and took a bus to Guadalajara, Mexico’s second largest city.  The historic Centro is impressive, the surroundings are typical.  I only saw the old city and that was enough.  I took a bus to Puerto Vallarta on Monday.

I ended my trip in 2007 in Puerto Vallarta and I am staying in a cheapie hotel right beside where I stayed last time.  I have said that I don’t like PV but now I must admit that it’s a great place for English-speakers.  Vallarta is beautiful and comfortable and a great place to own property.  However, its success is its weakness.  It is packed with non-Mexicans, and it’s tough to speak Spanish here.  North and south of PV are many beautiful beach communities, both inundated with foreigners and not.
