{"id":96,"date":"2013-05-19T15:29:41","date_gmt":"2013-05-19T22:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ashworthdavidg.ca\/?p=96"},"modified":"2013-05-19T15:29:41","modified_gmt":"2013-05-19T22:29:41","slug":"mariachi-madness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ashworthdavidg.duckdns.org\/wordpress\/index.php\/2013\/05\/19\/mariachi-madness\/","title":{"rendered":"Mariachi Madness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It all <a href=\"http:\/\/ashworthdavidg.ca\/new\/?p=550\" target=\"_blank\">started with<\/a>\u00a0La Hija del Mariachi. \u00a0Since returning to Vancouver I&#8217;ve watched all 147 episodes again and have gotten a couple friends hooked as well. \u00a0We&#8217;ve downloaded all the videos and have an mp3 library of over 100 songs.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the music was written by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jos%C3%A9_Alfredo_Jim%C3%A9nez\" target=\"_blank\">Jos\u00e9 Alfredo Jim\u00e9nez<\/a>. \u00a0I purchased sheet music for 15 of his songs and am able to play a couple of them. \u00a0My piano practice routine has been shattered by unwelcome distractions including work, being on strata council, and being part of the board of my building. \u00a0Oh, and by the way, we are being sued.<\/p>\n<p>Last night we attended a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mariachifestival.ca\/mariachis-this-year\" target=\"_blank\">2013 Mariachi Festival<\/a> concert in Vancouver. \u00a0It was a great show. \u00a0I hadn&#8217;t been on Granville Street at night for many years. \u00a0I was hugely impressed by great variety of bars and restaurants, and by the throngs of people enjoying themselves. \u00a0I must get out more.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind today I started buying tickets for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coastaljazz.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">2013 Vancouver International Jazz Festival<\/a>. \u00a0I could be out every night from June 21 to July 1. \u00a0The festival overflows with free concerts all over downtown. \u00a0I&#8217;m particularly looking forward to attending free workshops on jazz piano (strictly as a bystander).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It all started with\u00a0La Hija del Mariachi. \u00a0Since returning to Vancouver I&#8217;ve watched all 147 episodes again and have gotten a couple friends hooked as well. \u00a0We&#8217;ve downloaded all the videos and have an mp3 library of over 100 songs.
